The Sand and Dust Storm Warning Advisory and Assessment System (SDS-WAS), an international scientific coordination initiative, has been developing a global network for SDS research and operational forecasting, enhancing the capacity of WMO Members in delivering timely and accurate SDS forecasts and early warnings. About the WMO SDS-WAS SDS-WAS was established in 2007 in response to the intention of 40 WMO member countries to improve capabilities for more reliable sand and dust storm forecasts. Research forecasting products from atmospheric dust models may substantially contribute to risk reduction in many areas of societal benefit. It will rely on real-time delivery of. Sand and Dust Storm Warning Advisory and Assessment System (SDS-WAS)SDS-WAS is a research initiative of the World Meteorological Organization that serves as an international framework linking institutions involved in SDS research, operations and delivery of services..
The mission is to enhance the ability to deliver timely and quality sand and dust storm forecasts, observations, information and knowledge to users through an organized regional center and an international partnership of research and operational communities Home governance commission membership research board research board members environmental pollution and atmospheric chemistry scientific steering committee ssc epac sand and dust storms warning advisory and assessment system The WMO Sand and Dust Storm Warning Advisory and Assessment System (SDS-WAS) addresses two aspects of SDS: the complex science issues; and the technical aspects needed to coordinate, cooperate and fill in the gaps regionally and globally – those that are too difficult to be tackled by a single nation, agency or scientific discipline alone. WMO Sand and Dust Storm Warning Advisory and Assessment System (SDS-WAS) Introduction Aerosols such as mineral dust are particles suspended in air. The size of aerosols in general ranges from a few nanometers up to some hundred micrometers. The Sand and Dust Storm Warning Advisory and Assessment System (SDS-WAS) is a project of World Meteorological Organization (WMO) aiming at improving the capability of observing and forecasting sandstorm/duststorm.
